Implants

Dental implants are a durable, natural-looking solution for replacing missing teeth. Implants help restore your smile, improve function, and support long-term oral health.

Benefits

Types of Dental Implants

Procedure

Dental implants offer a durable and effective solution for replacing missing teeth. With proper care they can last a lifetime.

Implants are most often used to replace individual teeth but they can also be used to bridge multi-teeth gaps or provide outstanding stability to dentures.

The implant process includes building up the bone in your jaw and securing a titanium implant into the hardened bone. Then once the implant has fully integrated, a crown or denture can then be attached.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the implant process?

Implants are a fantastic option for replacing missing teeth but the process can be a long one compared to other dental procedure. The implant process usually takes about 7 appointments (from taking out a tooth to the final tooth replacement) and the whole process can take about 6-9 months depending on varying factors.

Why choose implants over other replacement options?

Implants are the closest thing to a natural tooth that you can get!

Unlike dental bridges, you don't have to alter the teeth next to the replacement site (why alter a healthy tooth if you don't have too?) and it's a single, stand alone unit that you are able to clean and floss just like a normal tooth. A dental implant is also permanently integrated into your jaw, so you don't have to remove it like you would with a partial denture or flipper.

Does Dr. Michelsen place implants?

Dr. Michelsen has placed many implants! There are certain cases in which Dr. Michelsen may refer you to a specialist in order to place your implant. Some factors like the location of the implant, bone health, or medical history may make your implant journey better off in the hands of specializing doctors. We want you to have the best possible experience and whether that's with us or with a specialist!

Am I a good candidate for dental implants?

There are a lot of factors to consider when deciding if implants are right for you. Some factors include bone health, medical history, and teeth spacing.

If you're interested in seeing if you are a good candidate for implants, the best thing to do is to come in for a consult so Dr. Michelsen can accurately assess whether implants are a good choice for you.

What are dental implants made of?

Most dental implants are made from titanium or titanium alloy because these materials are highly durable, lightweight, and biocompatible, meaning they bond well with the jawbone.

How long do implants last?

Implants can last a lifetime! Just like with anything, the longevity of your implant heavily depends on how well it's maintained and kept clean. While implants can't get decay or cavities like your natural teeth, if they aren't kept clean, debris build-up around the implant can cause bone loss and lead to the implant becoming loose.
